LG Electronics Plays Lead
Role in Conserving Los Angeles Cultural Icon |
 |
Seventy-two years after The Wiltern's historic
opening as one of Southern California's most beautiful
art deco performance venues, the historic theater has
been renamed The Wiltern LG. The new name reflects the
support the theater has received from LGE Electronics
as part of LGE's continuing support of the arts and community.
The grand opening festivities were held on October 21,
2003, and included a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the
Deputy Mayor of Los Angeles, Doane Liu, and the presentation
of a plaque from the City of Los Angeles, thanking LGE
for its conservancy of the venue. Grammy award-winning
Def Jam Recording Artist, Ashanti, capped the evening
with her live music performance.
The Wiltern LG, located in Los Angeles, is listed in the
National Register of Historic Places and as a Los Angeles
Historical and Cultural Landmark. Rated by both fans and
artists alike as one of the most evocative and intimate
concert venues in the West Coast, The Wiltern LG has a
long and interesting past. Originally built as a grand
movie theater in 1931 (by Stiles O. Clements-partner of
the oldest design firm in Los Angeles: Morgan, Walls &
Clements), it hosted premieres and other gala events during
the golden age of Hollywood. Since 1985, it has been a
showcase for live entertainment events. In 2002, The Wiltern
LG received a multi-million dollar transformation and
was reopened with a stellar line-up of concerts, including
a three-night residency by Bob Dylan, plus a rare theater
performance by the Rolling Stones.
LG Electronics will utilize this venue sponsorship to
help conserve the storied architecture of The Wiltern
for Southern California. LG is committed to giving The
Wiltern LG advanced amenities to compliment its unparalleled
ambience. The inclusion of LG technology will ensure that
the Los Angeles concert-goer has an experience unlike
any other. |
