Analog Compared to Digital
More than 60 years ago, television broadcasting was created. As with other electronic systems developed at that time, it used analog waves of signals for pictures and sound. While it has evolved over the years, from black-and-white to color, from simple audio to stereo, analog television is still prone to interference, snow and ghosts.

Today, a new kind of television-digital television- has replaced the old analog system. Digital television packs five times the picture detail as analog signals within the same broadcast channel space, and eliminates snow, ghosts and interference.
The FCC states that Congress has set a target date for complete transition from analog to digital by December 31, 2006, OR when most homes (85%) in an area are able to watch DTV programming.
