The digital TV broadcast system was created by an alliance of companies, including Zenith, LG's subsidiary. The system was documented by the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) and adopted by the Federal Communicatons Commission in 1996. The ATSC digital television broadcast standard specifies the digital compression and transmission system used for DTV Broadcasts.
