Surround Sound
Decoding and playing Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround sound requires sending the digital audio from the HD tuner to a Dolby Digital Surround sound system. There are two types of digital audio connectors.
- Coaxial - appears as a RCA jack on the rear jack pack of the source component.
- Digital optical or Toslink -- a jack with a little red light (sometimes covered by a protruding removable dust cover).
Digital source components such as a HD PVR use one or the other, or both. A Dolby Surround sound audio receiver will have one or the other, or both. If you don't have the right one on your receiver, you can purchase a converter that will change a coaxial cable connector to optical or visa versa.
