Video Inputs
There are a number of ways to get external high-definition signals into a high-definition display. All consumer HD monitors and integrated sets, except units designed and marketed as a computer monitor, have at least one video input that appears as three RCA-type jacks on the rear of the display. One jack is labeled "Y" and carries the black and white information of the HD source (known as luminescence). The other two are referred to as Pr and Pb; each carries a matrix of the red, blue and green picture information. This is the component video inputs.

Some HDTVs contain a PC monitor type connector known as a 15pin sub D connector. These are analog connections with separate wires for red, blue and green, as well as vertical and horizontal "synchronization." This connection appears on a number of set top boxes and computers.
